Navigating The Stacks, tags, and other updates

Hey, dear readers, we’ve got exciting new updates for you. Your faithful indie librarians have overhauled the website's navigation system and added a new submission stipulation for books falling under the Speculative category.

Firstly, this is our new menu:

Let’s review how these new additions will help you discover your next favorite read here on Substack.

If you're looking for a book, click on The Stacks. It’ll take you to a page that features categories with links to each section. Our official categories are as follows:

• Contemporary

• Literary

• Historical

• Speculative

• Thriller & Mystery

• Romance

• Young Readers

• Graphic Novel

• Short Fiction

• Poetry

• Nonfiction

Additionally, since Speculative fiction is such a broad industry term, we’ve decided to individuate genres within the category to make it easier for readers to discover the types of books they want to read.

Speculative now consists of the following:

• Science Fiction

• Fantasy

• Horror

• Utopian & Dystopian

• Apocalyptic

• Super Hero

• Supernatural

What this means for authors is that, when you submit your book, you’ll need to specify what genre you wish us to categorize your book within Speculative. If you’re unsure what genre your story is, let us know in the submission email, and we’ll help you narrow down which one suits your story best. If your story features more than one of the above genres, try to choose the one your story leans into the most.

An additional function of this update allows us to tag each genre to assist your search. It’s not perfect, but it fundamentally works to find the specific genres and subgenres you seek.

For all previous submissions, we’ve attempted to place your story in their respective genres as best we can. If your book is miscategorized, email or DM us so we can make the correction. Please do not DM new listings at this time.
