A devout Presbyterian, Archie is nevertheless a Scot, having been raised on tales of mischievous faeries and capricious gods. As much as his enlightened, modern mind rails against those old superstitions, his work crew is not so enlightened, having performed a ritual that seems to have awakened something ancient and elemental, something that hungers for obeisance and blood. Something that haunts Archie, intent on driving him mad. As the deadline looms, pressure builds and desperation takes hold, Archie’s faith falters and he succumbs to the old ways, making an unspeakable promise to save his career, his family’s future, and his sanity. When modernity and reason are confounded by ancient, forgotten realities, Archie learns that the true price of progress is his heart and soul.

Diagnosed with pancreatic cancer in 2020 at age 40, with a wife and two very young boys in his life, Dan began writing a series of letters in the likely event he died too young to see his kids grow up. After nearly 5 years, Dan is alive, doesn’t have cancer anymore and the letters became a book. This is not a cancer book, unless you're looking for a book about someone surviving cancer. It's also definitely not a self-help book, unless you are looking for a self-help book. It's simply a book seeking to understand the purpose of our absurdly short time on this earth. And why Santa Claus tied his own shoes together before the St. Angela Merici kindergarten class Christmas production in 1984. And also why two women tried to get into a fist fight with Dan in a cancer ward waiting room.
